Training Before Boarding

At Explora Journeys, we believe that pre-boarding training is essential for preparing you for life at sea and complements the mandatory STCW certification required for maritime service.

Our comprehensive pre-boarding training programs are designed to equip you with the essential skills and knowledge needed for your role. We conduct global pre-embarkation hospitality trainings at several of our training schools located in different countries. These trainings cover key departments such as Dining, Bar, Housekeeping, SPA, and Galley. Additionally, you will complete digital pre-boarding training to ensure you are fully prepared.

Training Onboard

At Explora Journeys, we prioritise continuous learning and professional development. Once on board, you will have access to training sessions focused on ship operations, guest services, and hospitality. These include role-specific training, regional knowledge, and leadership development for managers. We also provide technical training from internal experts and external specialists to keep you updated on industry practices.
Safety is a top priority, with regular crew emergency drills and guest emergency exercises.

Proficiency in English is a primary requirement at Explora Journeys. We set a minimum standard based on internationally recognised Common European Framework language evaluation system (CEFR). We offer online language programmes to enhance your communication skills.

Working Onboard

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s.

The length of our on board contracts is on average between 4 and 6 months, followed by a period of 2 months’ holiday. 

Our guests are aboard our ships for an experience of a lifetime. The pace of work required to deliver this can be demanding, with extended hours and tight schedules. While regular time off may not always be possible, we will arrange for some time off when operationally feasible. During this time, you'll have the opportunity to visit our beautiful ports and explore the destinations we serve.

Explora Journeys uses a Buddy System to help you settle into your new environment. Buddies are Hosts who know the ship and your job well. They will guide you around the ship, assist you in adjusting to shipboard life, and help you overcome the 'lost' feeling that often comes during the first few days on board.

A cabin with a bathroom and TV will be assigned to you on your first day aboard the ship. Depending on your position, you will likely share your cabin with another colleague.

There is one Team Restaurant on board to suit your tastes. Our Team Restaurant is open to all and offers a selection of high-quality dishes from around the world.
 

We care for the well-being of our Hosts!
Working on board can be challenging, so all our ships provide the following amenities to help you stay fit, healthy, and happy:
  • Team Fitness Room: available for  use during your time off.
  • Team Fun & Social Area: the social place where our crew members gather before and after work.
  • Medical Support: the ship doctor is available at no cost for any medical treatment you may need on board.
  • Laundry Service: available for bed linen, uniforms, and personal items.
  • Explora Journeys also organises fun and relaxing activities for everyone to enjoy.

We offer Free Wifi use for Hosts, allowing them to stay in constant touch with family and friends.
